In Tricone Lab you interact with microscopic organisms in what appears to be a cellular-like environment. Your goal? To create as many “tricones” as the level needs to let you proceed. Tricones are created by joining three colored cones (red, green and blue) into a master template, but several things will get in your way: not only the membranes, but also other organisms that might either aid or hinder you in your quest to complete the levels. The graphics of the game might be quite simple, but there’s a certain charm to the simplicity of the game, and I greatly appreciate the almost monochrome tonality of most of the game, for these type of puzzle games tend to end up in bright colors to make up for the lack of “proper” graphics. Not here! The graphic style seems to fit perfect with the game. The music and sounds are pretty good, almost relaxing, I rather enjoyed them even if I kept them at a very low level. Playing it is simple enough – you mostly will use your mouse to connect things and navigate, but there are also keyboard shortcuts should you not want to go entirely with the mouse. The levels, as I’ve already stated, appear to be quite simple when you begin, but as you progress they get increasingly difficult, and often times I would get stuck by not thinking things through properly before launching into what looked like a simple puzzle, but ended up being something more… even when the difficulty was marked as low. So the game really makes you pay attention to what you’re doing.There are neither tips nor guides in-game (there are tutorials though, like with every puzzle game, introducing you what new items do), though I’ve found often the level names are tips on their own.As you get through the levels you will unlock keys that will allow you to open even more levels for a whooping total of 100. Yes, you read that right. Tricone Lab boasts of 100+ levels, and if that were not enough for you, they also have a level editor. You can upload any maps you create with it, and others will be able to play them. Can you see the possibilities here? I can.And the game is still in development! Tricone Labs is an entertaining, challenging game that, although it might not be a graphical masterpiece, is truly worth your time. I’m the kind of person that gets easily frustrated with games, and I have to say, while I did get stuck here and there, Tricone was never stressful nor frustrating to play through. Do I recommend it? It’s a sound YES! You’re sure not to regret the purchase.. just an aweosome puzzle game, minimalist and beautiful. Found this game through a friend of mine and saw him play it on his livestream so i managed to get my hands on a copy to stream my reaction and boy was it a good one. One very small issue i had and it could of been my system is it would not launch when "in game cursor" is turned on and when turned off it worked fine. I like the concept of the game where you need to fuse those tri color thingies but with some obsticals in between. Now i am yet far in the game to know more about it but lets just say some puzzzle can really stump you if you don't think properly! You have to have an open mind and think outside of the box to solve certain levels. Took almost an hour and a half to do one particular level! Now others would laugh on how long it took to do what seemed a simple level now but not all brains are created equal #kappa.The game lacks of a co-op mode but after thinking about it this game can be a collective thought type. For instance you are a livestreamer and viewers are giving hints or suggestions. Hell a lot of us were just as stumped and we all raged together but we seemed to pull through and solved the puzzles as one.I've yet played with the editor but my friend did earlier tonight and the possibilites are endless if you are creative enough to make a hard but fun map. This is a fantastic puzzle game - it feels like it uses a similar part of my brain that Sudoko does (if this then that, but if I do that then this happens so I need to stop that happening by doing this but then I can't do that so must do this, and so on). It's a great example of a few rules and conditions that multiply together to something really complex. I've been playing for 6 hours or so, unlocked 33% of the achievements, so still have a lot of playing to go. Pretty good value for £6.99.I am getting to the levels where you can draw new membrane walls to make partitions and protect/isolate some of the pieces you're playing with, and each time you get a new type of 'piece' to play with it gives it more depth.The game also introduces you to the mechanism of play very well - it doesn't teach you what to do, so much as put you in the right environments to learn what to do, before it throws the harder problems at you.I'm also playing on a touchscreen, which makes the whole thing quite tactile.So if you're into thinking and problem solving, give it a try - if you get past four or five levels you'll be hooked into finishing it - while it gets more difficult as it goes on, it's always possible to solve. :). Really nice puzzle game. It starts easy but difficulty increases fast. It challenges your brain all the time :). This review is simply because I genuinely enjoyed the game.Tricone Lab is a 2D puzzle game where you seek to create a certain number of "tricones" by joining three individually cones into a catalyst. A variety of obstacles may be in your way, whether barriers, other catalyzers which will steal the cones, or needing to transport/clone/etc various tools in order to establish the final set of cones necessary in the proper location. A few of the levels are quite difficult, but there's an excellent series of tutorial levels which ramp the difficulty in a way that allows you to explore each newly-introduced mechanic.The game is still in early access, and there's a few known bugs on the forum which are getting ironed out, but none of the ones which I ran into are gamebreaking or mess with the experience whatsoever - typically a graphical glitch, or the like, which can be solved by reloading the level.The game has a complete set of authoring tools, allowing users to create their own levels which can be shared via the Tricone Labs website. All in all, it took me roughly 5 hours to complete all the levels that came with the game, and it left me wanting more - I'm actually trying my hand at making a level or two right now, which is something I practically never do, and as I got the game for free, I bought an extra copy to gift to a friend, which is some of the highest praise I can offer. If you enjoy puzzle games, this is likely right up your alley.. This game is very simple but also very fun. It is extremely addictive and I don't even really like puzzle games. I hate puzzle games that always seem to rush you with timers and crap but this is actually really neat and rewrds simple, smart thinking rather than anything else.. Does not have fullscreen mode. Now, borderless windowed (which the game features) would be enough, but ... its resolution list is limited. By far most games list resolutions up to my 4K desktop (Windows 10, newest patches), but this one doesn't, max is something around 3000.So I have the choice to play with a window centered on my screen that either has borders or doesn't have borders. But no fullscreen.That's just too low tech, and the game isn't good\/nostalgic\/magical\/whatever enough to warrant such a flaw. Refunded it..
